We have not used volunteers as screeners. It is a currently a must have role that is filled by paid employees hired to do only that role. We felt that having volunteers serve in the same capacity would conflict with FLSA.
Also, it can be a really tough role (I did it for a while here). I wouldn't want to ask a volunteer to do it.

Hi all!
I have had inquiries from our physician practices asking if volunteers can screen patients at the front door. They currently have employees screening - not additional staff, but staff that fill the needs during the day. Would it be in violation of FLSA for volunteers to take the position of screeners?
Here at the medical center, we have hired "entry screeners" so I would think that means volunteers could not fill the role here.
Thoughts on this? Thanks so much!
